Public Speaking Sensation

A month ago, I was looking for a guide or program that would help me improve my skills in public speaking.
Now, I wanted something I could learn fast, wasn’t long winded and preferably came in a non text format so my short attention span could digest it fast.

By coincidence, I stumbled upon this home study course on public speaking called ‘Superstar Speaker Home Study Audio Course’.

Written by a lady speaker, Ms. Jane Thomas, I was intrigued by what she had to say, so I purchased the course.

Turns out most of the techniques she used came from an old book that was written about 70 years ago! However, most of the content remains relevant to our modern times, such as : Techniques that would enable you to stand in front of a huge crowd and deliver a stirring speech, effortless public speaking while building up your charisma, and a common mistake committed by public speakers that turns people off.

You will also learn how to seek out and destroy the root problem of your public speaking anxiety, effortlessly become good at conversations, build up your confidence and bring in more sales!

Other issues tackled in this course include the rule of relaxation, stopping the 3 main fears of public speaking in their tracks, the correct and efficient way to build a speech, and what your audiences really want and how to fulfill them.

This has got to be the most uncomplicated, direct yet straightforward course that one can ever learn and the fact that it comes in an audio format makes everything so much easier and more convenient.

I’m giving the Superstar Speaker Home Study Audio Course 4 stars out of 5.

Public speaking courses can be very beneficial to people who need a little help in order to connect with the audience without the feeling of anxiety. They teach various techniques about how to prepare for a lecture and how to present it in front of people. The best thing about attending such courses is that a person will get to experience giving a speech on many occasions. After all, public speaking is not a talent, it is a skill. And like all other skills, it needs to be taught and developed over the course of time. With enough practice, everyone can become a great speaker.

One of the main reasons why people sign up for public speaking courses is that this is a unique skill. Unlike yoga, a person cannot just buy a DVD and simply learn how to speak in front of an audience. He or she will only learn this with appropriate coaching and with a lot of practice. Such a course provides the possibility of actually giving speeches. The first speech of an inexperienced orator will be no longer than five minutes. This provides a person with the basic feel of what giving a speech is all about. As he or she becomes more comfortable standing in front of strangers and talking to them, the feeling of anxiety will start to disappear.

Not everyone is a born orator, and more than 40% of all people feel uncomfortable when being placed in a position where they will have to talk in front of others. Public speaking courses are all about preparation, repetition, and practice. Giving your first speech may only take five minutes, but getting ready for it can take days. Speeches are so much more than just a person talking. Great speeches include appearance, the sound of the voice, eye contact, gestures, and many other little details, that a person might not even think about.

While yearning to learn how to speak well in public and conquer my fears of public speaking, I stumbled upon Paul Evan’s Instant Speaking Success.
Of course the first thing that went through my mind was: ‘How is this different from all the other crappy guides on public speaking floating online?’
After purchasing it, however, I have to confess that there is a change of mind.
Paul covers the 3C’s of public speaking – Content, Confidence & Connection which are the cornerstone principles of good public speaking.
He also teaches you the importance of certain words, attention grabbing titles, doing your research for the speech, structuring your sentences, goal setting for speaking at events and meetings, and the ultimate secret of effective, fearless speaking.
Paul also throws in three bonus reports on overcoming the crippling fear of public speaking, creating humor, quick but punchy speeches and an amazing bonus where he personally critiques your errors and helps you overcome the jitters!
The best thing of all? Paul is not some one who doesn’t walk the walk. He speaks to thousands upon thousands of people each year, as well as multi-million and billion dollar companies.
If there was one thing that I felt this amazing guide needed to improve it was simply the fact that the material could be converted into audio or video format to help people who don’t like to read grasp the points faster.

I’m giving it 4 stars out of 5.

Toastmasters International is a nonprofit organization that was founded in 1924. Since the creation of the first club in Santa Ana, CA, there have been over 12,036 clubs worldwide – as of 2009. Anyone over the age of eighteen can join such a club and immediately begin to improve his or her oratory skills. TI has over 235,000 members worldwide, and the clubs become more popular each year. The average number of members in a club is around twenty. TI specialize in Communication training and in Leadership training.

The essence of the Toastmasters’ Communication training is based on ten different speech projects. The first one is the easiest, and as people become more confident, they build up on that first one by starting the second one, and so on. A member must go through the ten projects, while delivering a speech for each of them. A time limit of five to seven minutes is enforced for beginners, while advanced level speakers get between ten minutes and half an hour, depending on the which of the ten projects they are preparing.

Leadership training is also an important part of the Toastmasters’ program. The Competent Leadership manual is given to every new member. There are ten projects on it that each member needs to complete. A person can complete the manual withing five months, or they can decide to take it slower. Once the manual is completed, the member receives a Competent Leader Award. Higher leadership awards are available as well in two levels – silver and gold.

Toastmasters International provides regular people with a great way to overcome their fear of public speaking and become a great orator. With thousands of clubs worldwide, it is almost certain that a person can find a club that is located near the place they live.
